Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing. ~Wernher Von Braun
The word "dilettante" was originally used to describe any person who studied art or science for love instead of as a profession. In recent years (since say, 1826 or so), the word has had a negative implication--that those who dabble outside their chosen fields are superficial . . .
There is no doubt that depth of human knowledge is important, and that we need more people who choose to dive in and advance the fronts. It's also true, however, that if you focus too much on each grain of sand, you can miss the beach.
This site is a rebellion against those who don't believe that there is value in being well-rounded. The fields of human knowledge are not islands, and innovations often come at the intersection of disciplines.
This site is dedicated to all those who believe that "and" is much more powerful than "or", and to those who are much better at their chosen profession because they choose to wander paths orthogonal to it.
